“Fable”, The Book Community App That Has Me Hooked!

“Fable” was introduced to me by a colleague a few years ago, however when I logged on to it I found it very clunky and hard to use. I have since given it another go, and wow what a change! The app is clean and smooth to use, not to mention the large search engine and the online book clubs!

Fable was originally launched in April 2021, by Padmasree Warrior. It was designed as a book tracker and review platform that could be shared online, since then, the app has undergone many updates including one in 2023 that launched a “For You Feed” to that app that provides personalised book recommendations, lists and reviews. Since my re-introduction to the app, I have made full use of the features provided and I am obsessed!

So, let’s begin…

The Profile Page

The profile page has the same components as most:

  • Name
  • Short Bio
  • List of followers

What makes this app different to others is the cute little additions such as your monthly reading wrap which you can put together and post to your feed and share it with your followers and, if you choose to make your profile public, share it with the rest of the fable community. There is also an AI reader summary generator that changes depending on the types of books you read and review, I am currently a Romantic Enchanter, which definitely highlights most of my reads. The other aspect of this AI generator, is when you get a new follower or you follow another person, it generates a comparison of your reads with that other person as well as books you have both read. And we can’t forget the stats that this app offers! You get a selected reading goal, what you have read so far and keeps tracks of your reading streaks in such a easy to read and not to mention cute format.

The Library

The app already has pre-programmed reading status lists:

  • Want to Read
  • Currently Reading
  • Finished
  • Did Not Finish

You do have the option to create your own custom lists, I have not needed to use this function as of yet, the pre-programmed lists are plenty for now!

As you can see, I have quite the book obsession:

  • Want to Read: 663 books (this is mostly my physical books but I have also included my e-books on my kindle and manga infinity app)
  • Currently Reading: 25 books
  • Finished: 338 books
  • Did Not Finished: 15 books

The search engine in the app is so easy to use, there is also a e-reader function within the app where most books are easily purchased and read that way, BUT it is currently only supplying e-books to customers in the US. Hopefully this changes soon!! Now, that being said, not every single book is in the catalogue but there is the opportunity to complete a form requesting a book to be added.

Clubs

Now, the part of the app that I love the most, the book clubs! You have so many options that span all different genres, authors and so much more. I am currently on 19 clubs, I use it mainly to get different book recs but the way the clubs are organised also make discussing books online so well thought out. Each club has a moderator who manages the club (you can also create your own club if you choose to), there are a series of chat rooms that members can communicate on:

  • Lobby
  • What to read next?
  • Intros
  • Book recs

There is absolutely no pressure to communicate through the club’s chat rooms but there is also plenty of opportunity to do so. Each club (as far as I can tell) takes in book recs from the club members, then they run a voting poll to choose the next read for the new month. Each book has spoiler free discussions for each chapter, this way people can comment their thoughts as they read but if someone is further behind than others they don’t cop any spoilers. Every communication I have read and participated in has been super friendly, I honestly love this book community!

For You Feed

This feed is your one stop shop for book reviews, book recs and any kind of bookish post from the fable community. There is also an option up the top to keep track of your reading streaks and progress in your books, and if you have an iPhone you can also add it as a widget for easy access!

I have made use of a fair few book trackers, but this one is my absolute favourite and that is mainly because of the book community on the app. I highly recommend it!

Happy Reading!
